So the boy and I have a place to live come December. Actually, we take posession November 1, and we'll move gradually on the weekends that month.
I am so excited. I will have stairs. The cats have never seen stairs, nor have they ever lived with actual carpet on the floors. They aren't going to know what to do with themselves. Hee.
It's a 3-bedroom townhouse in Guelph. With a nice big basement. And a dishwasher! I've already got colour scheme ideas for most of the rooms. Dijon mustard yellow with green trim for the kitchen. Lilac with dark purple trim for the master bedroom. Celestial theme for the bathroom.
The very best part of all of this is that in about six months, my best friend is going to come live with us. So I'll be living with my two most favourite people in the whole world.
Yay!

The Rules
Created over a number of months, collaboratively with wonderful friends.
1. Throwing is not sharing.
2. Tickling is not cuddling.
3. Telling is not asking.
4. Soggy is not sexy.

Loving me, loving you...
In a relationship, the one who loves the least holds the power. Sometimes it's easy to know which one you are, and often the balance shifts over time.
Right now I think I'm the one loving more. I'm constrained by the boy's familial situation, and so is he, I understand that. I just feel that I'm putting out more than I'm getting back. Living an hour and a half away from each other is difficult for both of us, but I feel like it's harder on me these days. I'm living alone, and while I'm very busy, I'm going home every night to an empty apartment. He's living with his parents, not an ideal situation, but at least he's not knocking around an empty living space. Oh, I have the cats, but really, they're not people, as much as they think they are.
I'm willing to take a Greyhound three hours round trip to see him for 8. He's not willing to do the same for an entire 72 hour weekend. It's not like it would cost him money either; I've already bought and given him the bus tickets. Frustrating. Granted, in that 72 hours, I'd be at rehearsal for 12 hours. And I know that he doesn't mean that *I'm* not worth it when he says that it wouldn't be worth his time, but it hurts all the same.
So right now, he has the power. I am at his mercy. It sucks. Yeah.

Out of the mists...
You're Igraine. You've got a very strong spirit, and I'm sure that whatever you put
your mind to, you will achieve. You don't let anyone push you around--you're you're
own person and you like it that way! You are a passionate person in general, but you
probably have an even more passionate view on love... try not to wrap yourself around
the love too much, though... you might risk forgetting about everything else around you!
Which Mists of Avalon Character are YOU?
by
"The Mists of Avalon" is one of my favourite books. I've been reading it once a year for over 10 years now. Morgaine is my favourite character, but I'm very pleased that I identify with Igraine.

Happy Victoria Day!
OK, so it doesn't actually get celebrated until Monday, but I won't be at a computer then. I will be recovering from a weekend of partying.
In Ontario, the Victoria Day weekend is better known as the May 2-4 weekend (said "may two four"). It's no longer so much about our colonial roots, our love for the monarchy, or national pride. A good portion of Canada's population doesn't have colonial roots, and the monarchy is an outdated tabloid story. As for national pride, well that's what Canada Day is for (unless you live in Quebec). May 2-4 is now the first long weekend of the summer. It's the time to open cottages, go camping, have parties and drink a 2-4 of beer (that's a case of 24 beers for any non-Canadian readers).
So why do we still hold on to the outmoded concept of celebrating the Queen's birthday? Probably just because it gives us another day of work.
For myself, while I'm raising a few this weekend, at least one will be for Queen Victoria, and one for Queen Elizabeth II: strong women who helped forge a strong county. Thanks ladies.

The reason for it.
For most of my life I have been the person people bring their secrets to. I have listened, and given hugs, advice or silence as required. This is a role that I am, by and large, comfortable in. Lately I find my patience with other people's lives lessening.
For 18 months my best friend has been fighting to save her marriage. I admire her for it, and I have been her ear through the whole thing. Even as I am ending my own very short lived marriage (only 15 months, not even as long as she's been fighting), I have been (her words) her rock, a tower of strength, the only thing that has kept her going some days. All of which is wonderful, and very flattering.
It's just that I'm tired. Perhaps weary is a better word. Everyday the problems are more of the same, and I'm feeling like a broken record. I'm not a trained marriage counsellor, or any other kind, which is really what she (they) need(s); they are unwilling to trust anyone else, certainly not a stranger. I've become so invested in their struggles that I get angry on her behalf (and to be fair, sometimes on his behalf too, as he is also my friend, independent of their marriage). I have begun to allow their problems to take an emotional toll on me. I'd like to break out of that, but I really don't know how. *sigh*
I'd also like to be weak for a little while. To be able to lay down my fears at the feet of someone who could be my rock. It's not that she hasn't been there for me, she has. And I would not have been able to get through the last four months without her support. But I just signed my separation agreement. And the man I love (please note: *not* the soon to be ex-husband) has his own set of crap, which I feel prevents me from unloading on him.
So I've started this blog. A place to go where I can unload when I need to. My friends won't get a link to it, or even know of it's existence. It's my own place; my private/public cubby hole, to do with as I like.
Welcome.
