My face hurts!

I think I may have a sinus something going on. The front of my head hurts on the inside and I feel all puffy. And my ears keep popping. Wah!

I got myself a neti pot a while ago, but have been too lazy to use it regularly. When I get home from second job after 11 at night and still have to herd animals before I can fall into bed to get up at 6:15 (although at least it's not 5:15 anymore!), pouring salt water through my head isn't high on my list of things to do.

I have a hard time doing things that I know are good for me. I don't eat as well as I should because I don't want to make the time to make the food. I don't get as much excercise as I should because the few evenings I have to myself, I'd really rather just knit and drink tea. I can't figure out if it's laziness, or if it's that I don't think I'm important enough, or if I'm just too bleeding tired.

There have been inroads. Quietly, with no fanfare or quit meters, I quit smoking on Nov. 25. I can tell that this time it's for good. There is a different quality to it this time, and also the smell of cigarette smoke is making me gag these days.

A friend introduced me to Yoga Booty Ballet, and I love it! A minumum of once a week I am getting a half hour of cardio excercise. I go over to her house right after work (after stopping to let out the dog and feed the cats at home) and she feeds me dinner then we jump around in her living room. I also bought the dvds for myself and jump around in my own living room on days when I don't have to go to second job after first job. I've also been keeping an eye on portion sizes when I eat and have lost a few pounds in the past couple of weeks.

But I'd still rather sit on my couch and knit, and drink tea.

Ouch! I hope your sinuses clear up. Even though I am a total hippie about health stuff I had to look up neti pots. Um, yum.

I am just the same as you about exercise. Am I too tired? Am I just totally lazy? Alas, in my case I think it is laziness.

In conclusion, [heart].

Ugh... sorry to hear about the sinus infection. I have been stuffed up since the start of this pregnancy, not to mention I'm on the verge of getting sick myself, so I feel your pain.

A lot of my friends have tried the Neti Pots and LOVE them. I am very tempted to try one. Let me know how it works for you.

Also, that's great about not smoking since November. Go team you! I have to admit, even though I quit two and half years ago, I still miss it. Thank goodness, at least for me, for the burden of responsible parenting!

Well done on quitting smoking. I know exactly what you mean on the "this time it really is for good" feeling. It's great.

Hoping your sinuses clear up soon. My right ear has been blocked for over a week. Yuck!

Well done on the quitting smoking. I agree with you about the final time having a different feel.

Welcome to the club of smug-ex-smoker! I know I wear my badge with superiority.

And yeah, the rest of your post came directly from my brain.

*hugs*

I know exactly what you mean. I, too, find the couch a really appealing place to curl up, even when I KNOW I'll feel better if I go do something. It's a funny thing, even when it's something I know I enjoy, it can be difficult to kick myself in the butt to start doing it. I don't think it's laziness; I think it's momentum. Three things that help:
- Make exercise a habitual part of your day. Then it's not a choice, just a thing you do on the way home from work (for example). If it's routine, you're less likely to look longingly at the couch and require willpower.
- Pick something you have a lot of fun doing (for me, it's outdoors activities). You sound like you're on your way with the yoga. It's way harder to keep up with something you don't enjoy.
- Get a workout buddy (or buddies). For me it's Marc. Peer pressure is a wonderful motivator. It's much easier to think about not letting someone down than "I SHOULD go work out. Because it's good for me." Plus, doing stuff with someone else is often more fun. I also get this out of my dragonboat team. It's fun, and you just can't miss practice...

Super congrats on quitting. I'm really proud of you!
